The favorite open-source Linux platform Ubuntu is all the way to make its debut to the smaller screen i.e. for smartphones, reports CNET. Ubuntu-based smartphones will use same software features as that of Android smartphone, while its web site pushes HTML5 and native code apps, must be a benefit for developers who can create now a single app for both the desktop and the PC.

Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth demoed the operating system with Shuttleworth saying that by the end of this year or early next year before the time when first fully Ubuntu-built smartphones are ready to start shipping. The smartphone interface will feature four edges of the screen, comprised of menus, icons popping out, on-swipe.
