ICANN Approves Four Non-English Generic Top-Level Domains

After a long tiff and tuff battle over which new top-level domains will get passed, the ICANN in meeting in Durban, South Africa this week finally signed first four generic top-level domains. The four gTLD which got passed, includes:

  • International Domain Registry Pty. Ltd.’s شبكة , the Arabic for “Web or Network”
  • Core Association’s онлайн, Russian for “Online”
  • Core Association’s сайт, Russian for “Web site”
  • Spring Fields, LLC 游戏, Chinese for “Game”

According to the organization, this is the first time that all non-English words selected at par at first. “It will mark the first time that people will be able to access and type in a website address for generic Top-Level Domains in their native language,” the organization’s press release reads.

Since registry documents for all four of these gTLDs were signed by domain registry services, from now on, they will manage them with using individual domain names and there extensions.
