According to a report by technology integrators publication CRN (via ZDNet) – cited multiple sources familiar with the matter – IBM reportedly in talk with Lenovo to sell its x86 hardware business in a deal worth up to $6 billion. The deal, includes IBM’s System x line, comprising of Intel and AMD-based tower, rack and blade servers.
IBM feels that selling the business to Lenovo emerged as not a threat. The company even informed its employees in its 20,000 square foot serve product engineering lab that they will soon to become Lenovo employees starting from June 1. The facility supports IBM server lines, including the System x, System i, System p and System z.
