EU Commission Grants €50 Million For 5G Mobile Technology Research

Although 4G still making its place, European Commission VP Neelie Kroes today announced grant of €50 million for research to deliver 5G mobile technologies by 2020, with aim to make Europe lead the global mobile industry. “I want 5G to be pioneered by European industry, based on European research and creating jobs in Europe – and we will put our money where our mouth is,” Kroes said.

Counting on few of the new EU research projects including METIS, 5GNOW, iJOIN, TROPIC, Mobile Cloud Networking, COMBO, MOTO and PHYLAWS addresses the architecture and functionality needs for 5G / beyond 4G networks while in particular, the METIS project gains a €16 million fresh EU investment.
