With United States 2012 elections are on the round, Twitter today launched Election Index, a political barometer for the social masses, means a daily measurement of Twitter users’ feelings towards the candidates as expressed in about nearly two million Tweets it gets each week during the time. The Twitter Political Index is built in partnership with the data analysis team at Topsy and two respected polling firms: The Mellman Group and North Star Opinion Research. The company’s blog post states, “a score of 73 for a candidate indicates that tweets containing their name or account name are on average more positive than 73 percent of all tweets.” The tool will give each candidate a percentage-based score drawn from that measurement.
