Yahoo’s $1.1 billion acquisition saw its first effect already as WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg claims that users are abandoning Tumblr because of Yahoo deal. Mullenweg says in its blog post that imports from Tumblr to WordPress take a swing from the typical rate of 400-600 per hour to more than 72,000.
Mullenweg also added that he is now curious to see what the creative folks behind Tumblr do with their new resources, both personal and corporate, but more interested in knowing that what the company would have done over the next 5 to 10 years as an independent company. The publication AllThingsD also noted that Posterous users fled away from the service when it was purchased by Twitter and same goes for Instagram when it was acquired by Facebook. Now have to see what’s in store with Tumblr?
