The departures from Yahoo’s research units seems not to be stopping at any extend as the latest to add is company’s VP of computational advertising and chief scientist of the Advertising Product Group, Andrei Broder as well as Jianchang (JC) Mao, who heads advertising sciences.

Broder previously was an IBM Distinguished Engineer and the CTO of the Institute for Search and Text Analysis in IBM Research. From 1999 until 2002 he was Vice President for Research and Chief Scientist at the AltaVista Company. He was graduated Summa cum Laude from Technion, the Israeli Institute of Technology.

Prior to joining Yahoo!, Dr. Mao was Director of Emerging Technologies & Principal Architect at Verity Inc., a leader in Enterprise Search (acquired by Autonomy), from 2000 to 2004. Prior to this, Dr. Mao was a research staff member at the IBM Almaden Research Center from 1994 to 2000.

There is no news that whether both of them are heading to from Yahoo but this research talent drain comes as no surprise after Yahoo Labs head Prabhakar Raghavan left followed by Raghu Ramakrishnan, who went to Microsoft.
