During the earnings call, Sony’s CEO Kazuo Hirai revealed that a total of 1.8 million PlayStation Vita units have shipped till date in the US, Japan, Asia and Europe since from the time it launched, while the company reported a record loss. Hirai called it as a “good start” – “A game platform, like Vita — the software is the key to success, how good the software is,” Hirai told reporters and analysts during the earnings call. “We have to reinforce the software area in order to improve the business… that is the basic line.”

“And vis-a-vis Vita, at this moment, there is no decline or lack of motivation as a portable platform. And also, in order to connect with the Network, this is a very important product indeed for us, and therefore we still have a very high motivation to develop this further,” Hirai said. “There is no change. And services and software must be strengthened.”

While PS Vita is in its debut stage, but we are expecting that the company may announce a lot more in E3 event which is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on June 5 to 7.
