Sony Mobile Confirms LayOff Of 1000 Jobs Globally, Move Headquarters To Japan In Restructuring Move

As expected, Sony Mobile today announced that it is altering the global operational structure of its development sites in Tokyo, Japan, Lund, Sweden and Beijing, China. The company by October 2012 will move its corporate headquarters to Tokyo. The company also confirmed that it plans to reduce its global headcount by approximately 15 percent (around 1000 personnel, which includes consultants also) throughout the financial years of 2012 and 2013. The company even filed a redundancy notification with Swedish authorities on notifying them that with the job closures, around 650 employees across a number of functions in Lund to be affected.
