Sony Considering Hundreds Of Layoffs At Its Sweden Mobile Phone Plant

According to Daily Sydsvenskan citing “sources” – via Reuters – Sony is considering hundreds of layoffs at its Sweden mobile phone plant. The move said to be one of the first major decisions since from the time over on its former joint venture with Ericsson.

The publication sources indicates that Sony’s Sony Mobile division planning to cut jobs ranging from several hundreds to up to 1,000 of the total about 3,000 jobs and consultants. Sony recently announced its first quarter results with sales were ¥1,515.2 billion, operating profit decreased 77 percent.

Stefan Olsson, an industry analyst at Alandsbanken, said there is possibility that some jobs might moved to Japan although, “Strategy and the integration of product development with the rest of Sony would be the main reason.”
