Sharp is seeking more than $1.27 billion for the plant in Sakai, western Japan, and by offloading office buildings in Tokyo, the Yomiuri daily (via Reuters) reported. Sharp spokeswoman Miyuki Nakayama said that “It is true that we are considering a number of options, and we will announce these when a decision has been made,” The company reported disappointing quarterly results which came with news that soon to be seen laying off its 3,000 jobs or around 15 percent of its total workforce, through early retirements and natural reductions. The company may have to resort to sell other assets to make up the shortfall and convince lenders.
