RIM Ships Only 7.8 Million Smartphones In Q1 2013, Down 30 Percent From Previous Quarter

Research In Motion in its ongoing Q1 2013 earnings call revealed some not-so hot numbers: the company said that it had shipped only 7.8 million smartphones this quarter, which is down 30 percent from 11.1 million units which was shipped last year. Even, BlackBerry PlayBook sales are down almost 50 percent, with just 260,000 units shipped.

The company an hour ago announced its Q1 2013 results with $518 million loss on $2.8 billion in revenue, GAAP net loss for the quarter was $518 million, or $0.99 per share diluted, compared with a GAAP net loss of $125 million, or $0.24 per share diluted, in the prior quarter and GAAP net income of $695 million, or $1.33 per share diluted, in the same quarter last year. The company even announced its plan to cut 5,000 jobs, big numbers that is defining clearly that what’s going on in the company.
