The reality TV music star is a worldwide phenomenon, but only until the next big thing comes along. Millions of people all over the world apply to be on these programmers, with thousands competing to catch the eye of the judges. Although there is an outright winner every season, very few of them actually succeed within the music business. The sad fact is that the only true winners are the producers, the real brains behind every operation.  Reality TV is big money business, with millionaires Simon Cowell and Simon Fuller battling it out to see who can earn the most each season.

Simon Cowell is known as music’s Mr. Nasty because of his blunt and often controversial criticisms, insults and jokes about contestants and their abilities. As well as being considered one of the most influential people in the world he also appears in a list of the nastiest villains of all time! Cowell was given the role of judge on the first series of Pop Idol in the UK and on the first season of American Idol, and was also judge on the first series of the British television music competition The X Factor, which he created using his production company, Syco.

Following the success of these franchises, Cowell, his company Syco, and its business partners developed Britain’s Got Talent. He is also the executive producer of America’s Got Talent as well as developing American Inventor, Celebrity Duets, Grease Is the Word and the game show Red or Black. Currently he makes more money from his show salary in a single year than the top eight reality TV music stars earned from their combined album sales. But while last year’s stars struggle to stay in orbit these millionaire judges and producers are already going through towns and cities looking for the next big thing to earn them even more money.
