IDC Forecasts Worldwide Mobile Phone Market To Grow 1.4% YOY In 2012

According to IDC latest predictions, the worldwide mobile phone market is forecast to grow 1.4% year over year in 2012, which is the lowest annual growth rate in the three years predicted. The firm says that the vendors will ship over 1.7 billion mobile phones this year while IDC forecasts that by 2016; around 2.2 billion mobile phones will be shipped to the channel.

The global smartphone volume in the fourth quarter of 2012 is expected to reach 224.5 million units, a 39.5% year-over-year growth while for the year, smartphone shipments are forecast to grow 45.1% year-over-year to 717.5 million units. Breaking down, IDC forecasts that Android will have 63.8% market share by 2016, while iOS to holds 19.1% market share.

BlackBerry OS will have 4.1% market share by 2016, while Windows Phone will see a huge rise to 11.4% by 2016 in market share, Linux count as 1.5% of market share while others constitutes 0.1% in market share by 2016.
