International Business Machines (IBM) with collaboration with Rutgers University has opened a technology center in New Jersey that will house a $3.3 million supercomputer, named “IBM Blue Gene/P,” with thousands of central processing units, or CPUs. The supercomputer contains stacks of processors that can digest massive quantities of data in a fraction of the time that a desktop unit would take. IBM hopes that in coming years it would be rated in “Top 500” list of the world’s most powerful computers.
