How To Turn An Ordinary Bathroom Into A Luxury One

Luxury is something we all aspire towards when it comes to home decoration. But luxury is usually associated with expense. It doesn’t have to be that way though. It’s possible to do it without spending vast amounts of money – here’s how.

Clear Out Unwanted Elements

Before you can start introducing new and luxurious stylings to your bathroom, you need to strip it bare and get rid of anything you don’t want. You don’t have to physically strip it to begin with. But you do need to decide what’s going to stay and what’s going to go. Anything that’s not going to contribute to the overall style of your new bathroom should be gotten rid of me.

There might be some things you’re not sure about, so start to plan out what your ideal will look like. Having a visualisation of what the bathroom will look like when the makeover is complete will help you decide which parts of the current style you want to get rid of. It might be the case that you want to completely start again, get rid of everything and work on a blank canvas.

Maximise Natural Light

It’s a fact; no light is better than natural light. You can have as many overhead lights and lamps as you want, but nothing can compensate for natural light. It has an entirely different effect on the outcome of the room than electrical lights do. But you can only use the natural light that’s available to you coming through the window. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a big, unobstructed window to work with.

But even if you only have a small window, you have to work hard to get the most from it. For example, you can add a mirror on the opposite wall to the window. This will reflect the natural light and make the room feel more airy. This quickly makes the room feel more luxurious rather than small and dull.

Combine Complementary Colours

Most modern bathrooms have pretty bland colour schemes. Sorry, but it’s true. There are only so many times you can see a cream or white bathroom without getting a little bored. The frustrating thing is there are so many options out there, so why aren’t people more willing to explore them?

If your bathroom is suffering from a boring colour scheme, think outside the box. It doesn’t have to mean painting your walls garish colours, but some imagination is necessary. One great idea is a black and white theme. It looks much more dramatic and appealing than a boring white bathroom. You could add some marble flooring that has a checked black and white pattern. It’s a simple idea, but also an effective one.

Add Patterns to the Walls

The walls of your bathroom don’t have to be boring. They don’t have to be painted in blocks of colour. There are thousands of options you can try and experiment with until you find the one that’s right for your room. For example, you can paint the wall and then add patterns using stencils or different types of tiles.

Wallpaper can be an even better option. Most people don’t like the idea of wallpaper in the bathroom, but I love it. It can look great if you find the design that fits the overall scheme of the room. It doesn’t have to be a design that has been made specifically for bathrooms; you can use whatever you think works, no matter how strange an idea it is.

Install a New Suite

You have two main options when considering what you want from your bathroom suite. The first idea you can go for is a classic suite. There are lots of classically designed freestanding bathtubs and suites that look great as long as the rest of the room matches them in terms of design. But if you want a more modern bathroom, this probably isn’t the best option for you.

New, modern bathroom suites offer you a wealth of options. So, one thing’s for sure; you won’t be short of styles to choose from. Angular, modernist-inspired suites are very popular at the moment. But don’t make your decision before browsing. Visit http://www.bellabathrooms.co.uk/bathroom-suites.html to see what options there are open to you.

Try to Create Space

If you want luxury, you need space. It’s very hard to make a cramped room feel luxurious. Any luxurious room (not just the bathroom) requires empty areas. It adds a dimension of grandeur and size that lets the room breathe and not feel constricted and suffocating. It is possible to create the illusion of space even if you have a relatively small bathroom – although it’s easier with a large bathroom!

Firstly, don’t fill up floor space unnecessarily. The toilet, sink, shower and bathtub are essentials, of course. But aside from those and maybe a vanity cabinet, you shouldn’t store much else on the floor. Instead, put up extra shelves and find creative storage solutions that use other areas of the room rather than the floor.

Use Natural Materials

You want to minimise the use of plastics and cheap looking materials in the bathroom as much as possible. Yes, they’re cheaper, but they certainly aren’t very good at creating a luxury feel in the room. Try to source the best materials you can possibly find. Marble, strong woods and glass all look great in the bathroom. Your flooring should use wood. Lino looks poor and carpet is always a bad idea in the bathroom.

The best materials last for decades too, so you won’t have to rip them out and replace them in a few years time like you would if you used cheap ones. Granite, marble and good wood never go out of style either. And something that never loses its appeal is one of the true signs of luxury!

Don’t Neglect the Small Additions

It’s often the little things in the bathroom that give it the greatest sense of class and elegance. For example, why not use a small wooden stool and pile it up with some luxury Egyptian cotton towels? Not only will it be useful, but it’ll look great too. Small digressions in a room make it stand out and look less identical to all the other bathrooms out there.

Other ideas include placing candles around the room or adding ornaments. This is the part of the design process that allows you to do what you want with the room. Whatever you see as being luxurious you should do. Rooms need an individual style if they’re to feel like your own and not someone else’s

Add a Quirky Twist

Sometimes, a room can be vastly improved by adding a quirky twist to it. It doesn’t really matter what the twist is, and it doesn’t even have to fit in with the rest of the design. It can act as something that breaks from the rest of the design. It’s a classic technique that often has great results, so don’t be bound by convention.

Why not add a fireplace or even a sofa. This is something you can only really do if you have the room to pull it off. But if you do, go for it! It can give a completely new spin to the room and even offer extra functionality. Use your imagination, and you might be surprised by what you come up with.

As long as you take each of these ideas into account, you shouldn’t have too much trouble coming with a design that will be both luxurious and functional for your household.
