Staying healthy on vacation is often a challenge, but it’s not impossible.

When traveling, follow these tips to help you stay healthy.

Boost Your Immune System

Catching a cold or other illness while on the road is common, since you encounter more people, often eat differently than normal, and can become exposed to unfamiliar viruses. In fact, one out of five airplane passengers acquire a cold after traveling. To help prevent getting sick while on your vacation, take necessary precautions to boost your immune system during the week before your departure. Boost your immune system with these tips:

  • Get seven to eight hours of sleep for several nights before leaving.
  • Take probiotic supplements each day for three days before your trip.
  • Take Vitamin C supplements or eat foods with Vitamin C in them, such as oranges.

Over-Pack Your Medication

If you’re bringing along any prescription medication, it’s important that you always bring more than you think you’ll need to prepare for the unexpected. For example, you might have to wait for your flight since 20 percent of all U.S. flights experience delays. Before you leave for vacation, order your medication at the Canadian Pharmacy online so that you’ll have enough to last your trip.

Prepare for Illness

When you prepare for illness, the sickness is easier to get past. Some common issues that you might experience during your vacation include gas, cramps, colds, and diarrhea. Pack a health kit that includes the following items:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Antacids
  • Pain killers
  • Antibiotics
  • Bandages
  • Anti-diarrhea medication
  • Prescription medication

Many people find it hard to stay active while on vacation, but there are plenty of opportunities to get your workout in no matter where you are. If you’re staying at a hotel, visit its fitness center and take a ride on the stationary bike or lift some weights. If your hotel has a pool, swim some laps. If nothing else, simply go for a walk or run around the city. You could even get your workout in by enjoying the nightlife and going dancing.

Protect Your Skin

Protecting your skin is crucial to your health since severe sunburns can cause dehydration and illness. Make sure to apply a strong sunscreen often throughout the day. Even if you’re not headed to the beach, wear sunscreen if you’re outside, no matter how warm or cold it is. If you’re headed to the beach, make sure to use a waterproof sunscreen and apply it frequently to avoid burning.

Use Caution When Eating Out

Many people tend to notice a bit of weight gain after a vacation since they’re eating out all the time. Eating out is fine, but be smart about it. Choose only one meal per day to indulge in instead of indulging in each meal. Try ordering low-calorie meals, such as soups or salads, and avoid getting fast food at each meal.

Vacation isn’t an invitation to give up your healthy habits. Next time you travel, follow these tips to stay healthy.
