Gartner: Lenovo Becomes No. 1 PC Maker For The First Time

According to preliminary results by Gartner, the worldwide PC shipments totalled 87.5 million units in the third quarter of 2012, a total decline of 8.3 percent compared with the third quarter last year. The interesting to note that in the results, Lenovo staged at no one position in worldwide PC shipments and that too for the very first time, while HP’s stands at second position and was at 15.5 percent. Dell was at no. 3 position in PC shipments market worldwide in the quarter.

PC shipments in the US totalled around 15.3 million units this quarter, a total of 13.8 percent decline as compared with the same period last year. Four of total top five vendors in the US experienced shipment declines while despite a shipment decline of 19.3 percent, HP tops the chart in the US market. Both Acer and Toshiba shipments declined due to the tough environment in the consumer market.
