Facebook Invests In 10,000 KM Long Asian Undersea Cable Project

BBC reported that the social giant has invested in a 10,000KM (6,214 mile) Asian undersea cable initiative, dubbed Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG). The Gateway designed in order to improve internet speeds for citizens and businesses in the region. The 10,000KM long cable will run directly from Malaysia to South Korea and Japan.

“Our investment in this cable will help support our growth in South Asia, making it possible for us to provide a better user experience for a greater number of Facebook users in countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Singapore,” a spokesman said.

The spokesperson did not reveal the investment figure, according to BBC, but said that the consortium of companies involved in the project had invested $450 million in total.
