According to the IDC report, iPhone loses market share in Europe as Android surges. The Western European mobile phone market shipments dropped 4.2% year on year to 43.6 million units in the first quarter of 2013 due to a lower than expected smartphone shipments slowdown.

Shipments fell 31% on year-on-year basis to 12 million units while shipments increased 12% year on year to 31.6 million units in the quarter, which was the lowest growth rate since IDC started traking mobile phone market back in 2004.

Platform wise, Android dominate the smartphone market with shipped total of 21.9 million units in the quarter while Apple’s iOS market share declined to 20% from 25% in 1Q12. Windows Phone improved its market position and has become the third biggest OS in the region, but still holding a small percentage of 6%.
