Kennedy Space Center

Although Orlando is notorious for its thrilling theme parks, there is also a wealth of other wonderful activities that can be enjoyed in this exciting city. So if being thrown in every direction on a roller-coaster isn’t your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that you can enjoy all manner of experiences in Orlando, from strolling through picturesque botanic gardens to making friends with some of the world’s rarest animals. Our list of alternative things to do in Orlando should help kick-start your dream Floridian getaway.

Wekiwa Springs

Witness Florida in all of its natural splendour at the Wekiwa Springs State Park, a landscape of untouched wilderness and scenic rivers which are yours to explore. Thirteen miles of picturesque trails allow you to peruse the state park at your own leisure, giving you the opportunity to spot some of the local wildlife, including deer, fox squirrels and even the Florida Black Bear.

There are many activities which can be enjoyed within Wekiwa Springs. For example, if you’re feeling adventurous, then saddle up your steed on a horse trail. There’s no better way to experience your surroundings than when you’re astride your four-legged friend.

Kennedy Space Centre

One of the most incredible places on earth and yet easily overlooked, the Kennedy Space Centre is a cornucopia of fascinating sights and sounds, where you can learn more about what goes on in the universe than anywhere else.

A trip to the Kennedy Space Centre will appeal to anyone, making it the perfect destination for a family outing. Kids will love learning about the various space expeditions, and you’ll even have the chance to meet a real astronaut!

High Tea at the Ritz

If you’re after a relaxing afternoon then there could be nothing more pleasing than enjoying high tea at the Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes.

High tea is a brilliant – and decadent – way to while away the afternoon hours, making for an unforgettable experience. But there is only one place that serves high tea to perfection – the Ritz. Serving a selection of fresh teas and mouth-watering finger sandwiches, scones and cakes, there’s nothing more delightful than an afternoon spent at the Ritz.

Harry P Leu Gardens

Admire over 50 acres of stunning landscaped grounds at the Harry P Leu Gardens, located in the heart of Orlando.

The botanic garden is home to a plethora of rare flora, with its mild subtropical climate allowing for a variety of temperate and tropical plants to thrive. You’ll be able to see for yourself the beauty of these plants as you wander down the various paths which wind through the heart of the gardens. There’s even a museum in the gardens, where you’ll be able to learn about turn-of-the-century Florida.

Shopping Malls

Of course, there’s nothing better than a bit of retail therapy, and Orlando can offer you just that. There are various shopping malls in the city, filled with the best retail outlets, so you’ll find plenty to treat yourself to.

Vineland Avenue is just one of the shopping malls on offer, and is home to some of the best stores, including Banana Republic, Armani Exchange and Calvin Klein.
