If you want to support your local community, then there are several things that you can do to help.

Support Local Businesses

It can be tempting to only purchase things from massive companies like Amazon and neglect local businesses. Instead, if you want to support your local community, then you should make fewer Amazon purchases and buy from local retailers. This way, the money that you spend gets put back into the community. If you don’t do this, then local stores and shops could be at risk of closing down.

However, this extends further than just supporting local retailers. A lot of businesses won’t be just shops and stores. They might be accountants, lawyers, B&B’s or anything else. Instead, of using larger companies, you should try to use these smaller local businesses. Using local can often mean that you can build a relationship with a business in a way that is impossible to do with massive companies like Amazon.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to the community. Depending on your skill set you might be suited to a different kind of volunteering. However, you might want to develop new skills or push yourself to improve others. If you look around at what volunteering is available in your local community, then you will likely find something of interest.

You might have experience in construction and want to get involved in a project like the ones that Habitat For Humanity (www.habitathm.ca) do. This is where they build affordable housing for families. If you like the sound of this, then there might be a similar project in your area.

Another option is to pick a local charity and contact them directly to see what volunteering opportunities are available. Each hour that you spend volunteering helps the charity to do things it otherwise couldn’t. Volunteering is about more than just helping the charity though. This is because it can also be a great way to make new friends, do something rewarding for your community and improve your own skills.

Local Events

Every community has local events. Helping make these as big a success as possible is a great way to support your community. This might mean volunteering to help on the event day or being part of the planning team. Either way, you are working to make the community proud and show how fantastic it can be.

You might also want to hold your own community or local events. These might be in association with your own company or not – it is up to you. However, getting companies behind these kinds of things can help increase the overall budget of the event. Getting local businesses, people and charities involved is also a good idea. If you decide to run your own local event, then make sure that it incorporates as many aspects of your local community and that you get as many people on board as possible. Running an event can a be a lot of fun and be a great way to give back to your local community.
