#1. Some Car Turns Left Without Noticing You

This is one of the most common accidents involving motorcycles out there. You’re on your merry way and some car doesn’t notice that you’re behind them when they decide to take a left turn. You’re suddenly forced into a situation that’s potentially life-threatening.

Pretty much the only way to be prepared for this type of accident is to see it coming. Yeah, the only way you’re going to be able to avoid this is to keep your eyes peeled for this at all times. Always look at the wheels of the cars in front of you to give you clues of what they may be about to do. That will help you take evasive action, if necessary.

If this type of accident is going to happen, you’ll want to be aware of your surroundings and how you could turn to avoid it. Check for cars from behind, the terrain beside the road, and other factors to make sure you won’t just get into another accident.

#2. The Corner You’re Turning Is Just a Little Too Tight

This one is totally on you to prepare for. You’re joy-riding, enjoying the summer sun, and you come upon a corner just a bit too fast. The best way to avoid this is to just drive more safely and be aware of how sharp a curve could be before you go into it.

If you find yourself in this kind of situation, trust your bike. There’s not likely much you can do on your own accord, so lean into your bike and smoothly let it ride out.

#3. A Driver Doesn’t See You in Front of Them and Hits You from Behind

Fender benders in the motorcycle world are obviously going to pose more of a threat to your life than in the car world. And they’re pretty common since drivers aren’t on the lookout for motorcyclists, most of the time.

Prepare for this one by looking for something that’s called “crumple zones” at stops. When you’re stopping at a pedestrian crossing or intersection with the chance of a fender bender, maneuverer in-between other cars or in front of the car in front of you to use those cars as a protective barrier.

#4. A Parked Car Opens Its Door in Front of You

This is something that happens simply because of the impatience of motorcyclists who want to get through traffic as fast as possible. Driving in the middle of a line of traffic and line of parked cars is only going to end badly. The chance of someone opening their car door and getting in the path of your motorcycle is too high for you to risk it.

The best way to avoid this is to simply wait in traffic. Don’t be stupid!

#5. Rain, Snow or Sleet Makes the Road Slippery

Nature can make driving a motorcycle pretty treacherous and you’re just going to have to be prepared for this. No matter what kind of precipitation you’re looking at, make sure you have the best tires on your motorcycle for any kind of weather. Just take it slow, be aware of your surroundings, and you’ll be fine.

Motorcycle accidents are too common. No wonder your mom always warned you against getting one! But hey, you’re already driving around and the best way for you to prepare for an accident is to be aware of the points above. Better be safe than sorry!
