US Chipmaker Qualcomm Plans Whole New Subsidiary To Better Protect Its Patents

Qualcomm all set to bring up a wholly owned unit, a new subsidiary, in order to protect its research and development activities and its products and services businesses patents. Under the new subsidiary, the company includes technology licensing division, corporate functions and most of its patent portfolio. The restructuring is expected to complete during the first fiscal quarter of 2013. The company in its last move had won 4G spectrums for four of India’s 22 telecoms zones in 2010 auction.  The company said in a statement it was not responsible for the delay in getting the internet license, adding the delay was caused by the ministry’s objection to its application.
