In an interesting thing to start, the University of Portsmouth has launched a new online project name “Old Maps Online”. The site collectively contains the links, locations and metadata for over 60,000 historical maps, but adding all the things over the top built with MapRank Search Software, which stands out each map’s area on top of standard Google Maps API. The maps contributors list includes the British Library, the David Rumsey Collection and those others. Plans are to double the database number of maps by year end, with contributions from the New York Public Library and Harvard University.
