Running your own blog can be very interesting, fun and rewarding. It can teach you new skills, help you engage with new, like-minded people, and allow you to promote things that you believe in. It can even be a way to make money through things like advertising, guest posts and affiliate marketing.

Of course, if you are going to make a go of a blog, you need to pick a subject that you are really enthusiastic about. If you are in the process of planning your wedding, a wedding blog may seem like just the right niche for you to blog in. Here are some tips for starting up a good wedding blog:

Try and Be Niche

The biggest wedding blogs out there are behemoth websites with thousands of posts and millions of hits, and you can’t hope to compete with that. Instead, look to put your blog in a specific niche so that it will have something to offer a more targeted audience. If, for example, you want to write wedding related content about your local area, for instance the best places to buy beautiful engagement rings in Washington DC or where the best caterers and wedding cake companies are in San Francisco, then a blog for brides in your area can be a good niche. This can also allow you to make money by advertising local wedding related services and make friends with other brides who live in your city. If you have another niche interest, for instance budget weddings, alternative weddings relevant to a particular subculture or themed weddings, then this can also make your blog stand out.

Be ‘Real’

A lot of the content you read about weddings online can be quite bland and generic. For your blog to stand out you need to have a voice – your real voice. If you have strong opinions about an aspect of the wedding industry or wedding etiquette, put it out there – people who agree with you will love it. If you have a quirky sense of humor or unusual taste, this can also make your site more interesting. The important thing is to be honest and use your real voice. There are so many posts out there about just about every given aspect of weddings that what you need to create is stuff you yourself would want to read and would find genuine.

Take Care of the Technical Stuff

Running a blog isn’t all just coming up with interesting ideas and writing or taking photos – you also need to make sure you have good web hosting so your site is reliable, and that your site is built using a theme that works well on all kinds of devices. You can research all of this stuff yourself online, but it is worth doing that before you even start worrying about the contents of your first article.

These are some basic tips for creating a good wedding blog that has a chance to gain some followers and maybe even make you some cash!
