China’s alternative to Twitter, Sina Weibo, has introduced its premium services for ¥10 ($1.57) a month or ¥108 ($16.99) a year. The VIP membership will come with 15 new features, like more personalized pages, voice posts, more mobile features, and better security (such as password reset via SMS) and are available on the new vip.weibo.com page when signed-in. More interesting is that a VIP Weibo user will be shown by a golden crown icon on their profile page. Sina Weibo reported a loss of $13.7 million during its first quarter of 2012, so might be the new feature may be an attempt to get back on track.
