Samsung Surpasses Nokia As Top Cellphone Brand In 2012 For The First Time In 14 Years

It definitely good great news for all those who are eagerly waiting to hear such news: for the first time in 14 years, Samsung surpassed Nokia from top cellphone brand in 2012, while Apple is at number three position. Samsung, which counts 24 percent market share in 2011, now expected to account for 29 percent of worldwide cellphone shipments, according to the IHS iSuppli Mobile and Wireless Communication Service.

On the other end, Nokia this year will drop from 30 percent last year to 24 percent this year. While the global smartphone shipments are set to rise by 35.5 percent this year, while the overall cellphone shipments will increase by approximately 1 percent. Further interesting to note that Samsung and Apple which was ended in a neck-and-neck battle for leadership in smartphone market in 2011, this year saw competing with only a mere 1 percent market share.
