With Reuters reported earlier that Qualcomm’s subsidiary Pixtronix is making an investment in Sharp, combining its MEMs display technology with Sharp’s IGZO technology to develop a new range of devices of varying sizes and types. Over this, Sharp today announced that the company has reached an agreement with Pixtronix providing 9.9 billion yen (about $120 million) of investment for developing IGZO low-power display technology jointly. “With this agreement, Sharp will accelerate its strategy for growth in small- to medium- sized LCD business with IGZO-based display technology as its core, and expand its revenue and corporate value,” giving Qualcomm a 5 to 10 percent share and making Sharp the largest shareholder in the company.
