PayPal announced today that it has acquired a San Francisco-based company card.io that provides technology by which developers can capture credit card information by using the camera on a smartphone. Card.io, which was available for both iOS and Android platforms, will allow small vendors to accept credit card payment, but instead of scanning the card, it optically reads the number present at front. The card.io team joining the PayPal global team in San Jose as well as current technology will remain available to developers for use in their own applications. We hope that it would be a new and better beginning.
