Modern moms always have their plate full, having to juggle various responsibilities both at work and at home. Taking care of small children while still being focused and productive at work constitutes a huge challenge. The key to maintaining your physical appearance and meeting deadlines at work while taking care of your home and children is good organization. The following tips will help you keep it all together- or at the very least give off that impression.

Appearance

With all of the responsibilities and pressures in the life of a modern mom, it is easy to neglect your physical appearance. Working and taking care of your household and family is not an excuse for not looking your best. Preparation is everything, and there is no time for it like the early morning hours. Get up half an hour before your children and devote the time to yourself. A stress free start of the day can do wonders. Time management is crucial. For example, if you want to straighten or curl your hair, plug in the curler and let it warm up while you take care of other tasks such as making coffee or brushing your teeth. With makeup, less is more. Keep it simple but do not fall into the “no time for makeup” trap, as it is considered the most visible sign of a mom that does not have it all together. After the kids fall asleep, take a shower so you can be refreshed and relaxed for the following day. Taking a long shower in the morning is almost impossible when the kids are waiting for a meal or running around the house. Do not hesitate to ask your husband to watch the children for a few hours while you get your hair done. Sports days or summer camps for the children will give you well needed time to relax and visit a spa or beauty salon to ensure you look and feel your best.

Taking Care of Young Children

Young children and infants are a challenge to any parent, let alone a modern working mom. Thankfully, there are certain products that you can use to your advantage and make things easier for yourself. For your youngest, use cloth nappies that come with flushable inserts. They are reusable and rarely get soiled so there is little need for washing. Just flush the old insert and replace with a new one, neat and easy. This saves you a lot of time and money. You can use technology to your advantage by getting a multi-tasking nursery. It indicates room temperature and acts as a baby monitor, sound machine, clock and night light all at once. Also, the best time to prepare and pack lunches and snacks for the little ones is immediately after dinner. Just put them in the refrigerator and you are good to go for the following day.

Taking care of your home

Having a clean and well organized home does not necessarily require hours and hours of cleaning. One day of the weekend needs to be reserved for cleaning the entire house. Particular emphasis needs to be put on rooms with a lot of traffic like the kitchen and the living room. Keeping these rooms clutter free does wonders and gives the impression of an organized and orderly home.

Participation from your kids is crucial. Ask them to put away their toys after playing; you can even make it into a game. Putting hampers in the bathroom and kids rooms will minimize the amount of clothes lying around and save a lot of time when doing laundry. Stocking up on wipes is a practical and effective way to deal with spills and stains as they appear. “A stich in time saves nine”, this is particularly true in the kitchen. Soak your dishes or place them in the dish washer as soon as the meal is over. This will save a lot of time and energy and keep your kitchen looking neat.

Keeping it all under control in the life of a modern mom isn`t just about the amount of work that you put in. In fact, simply trying harder is not enough – you have to try smarter, or you will feel like all of your hard work goes nowhere. Remember that, with a bit of properly timed and directed effort, you can make your life a whole lot easier and achieve everything you need to fairly easily.
