ArenaNet Founder and President Mike O’Brien announced today that Guild Wars 2 would be coming this year following the beta released in February. O’Brien mentioned in the post that the upcoming MMO will bring a completely new approach to questing and combat.
He writes, “This year, the Year of the Dragon, let’s usher out old thinking.” Guild Wars 2 has been in production for five years: like with its predecessor, there will be no monthly subscription fees, with most of the company’s income coming from sales of new games.
We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events, he further added. In February the company will invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April will aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate.
