Microsoft has revealed four versions of Windows Server 2012 in which two will be licensed to customers on a per-processor basis. The four versions are: Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter. The Foundation version is suitable for Economic general purpose server, Essentials for small business environments, Standard for Low density or non-virtualized environments and Datacenter for highly virtualized private and hybrid cloud environments. The company focusing into “making Windows Server 2012 Essentials the ideal first server operating system for both small business and home use,” said an FAQ (PDF).
