Microsoft To Invest $348 Million, Expanding Its Virginia Data Center In Mecklenburg County

According to report on The Republic (via The Next Web), Microsoft investing $348 million in lieu of expand its Virginia data center in Mecklenbury County. The expansion will create 30 jobs, said the Governor Bob McDonnell while the company’s Data Center Services general manager Christian Belady said that the expansion will increase the facility’s computing capacity, software capabilities and server utilization.

The move will let the company to meet customer demand in the region for cloud services more efficiently with the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission will provide $2 million for the project and the Governor’s Opportunity Fund will provide $200,000 grant to assist the county with the project.
