Japan’s Smartphone Shipment Continues To Grow In Its Pace, With Shipment To Grow 55% This Year

The land of rising sun is continuously seeing the growth in its smartphone market pace; as a new research from IDS predicted that smartphone shipment to the Japan will increase by 55 percent this year. Domestic shipments of smartphones in 2012 are expected to surge 55 percent to 31.13 million handsets, according to research firm IDC Japan, reports Tokyo Times.

The rise is strongly due to the sales of Apple’s iPhone 4S and other smartphone models in the country. Back in 2011, domestic smartphone shipments soared about 3.6-fold to 20.10 million units and accounted for 53 percent of all cellphone shipments. The research firm projects that domestic smartphone shipments will grow to 36.99 million in 2016. Shipments of tablet computers are likely to rise about 48 percent to 3.33 million in 2012 and to 5.79 million units in 2016.
