With iPad Mini last rumor rounded that the device will be out in the second half of this year, the rumors continued today from two of different sources. 9to5Mac citing “unnamed sources” that the mini will “look like large iPod touch” while other publication iMore added that the device will be the having exactly the same thickness as that of iPod touch and therefore will be “substantially thinner” than the current iPad. Both the publications created mock-ups of the new tablet, with the comparison chart comparing with the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire. While, on talking about the dimensions of the iPad and iPod touch, the thickness to make the iPad mini’s case lies between the two devices, Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber said while comparing on the numbers. Gruber notes that “maybe iPad mini is the wrong name for us to use as a placeholder,” suggesting “iPad Air.” The total calculations Gruber made:

The iPad Mini, based on my best guess hunch dimensions of 200 × 135 x 7.2 mm = 193,680 cubic mm. Divide and you get 78 percent. The Nexus 7 weighs 340 grams, so, let’s guess that the iPad Mini will weigh just 265 grams.

For comparison, the WiFi-only iPad (3) weighs 652 grams, and the Amazon Kindle 3G with keyboard weighs about 247 grams. So a sub-300-gram smaller iPad would be pretty light.
