The Verge reports yesterday that users around the world say that Gmail and some other Google apps not functioning. Users are experiencing a generic 500 error that says “we’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable,” and the Google Apps status dashboard lists a service disruption: “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Mail. We will provide more information shortly.” According to the Google Apps service page, the outage affected around 2 percent of the Mail userbase, and anyone who’s having trouble shouldn’t have to wait much longer.
The Gmail team has since responded to complaints, promising that service will be resolved soon: “#Gmail should be back for some of you already, and will be back for everyone soon. Thanks for your patience.” Google later added that Gmail should be back for everyone. “The problem with Google Mail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.” A Google spokesperson also confirmed to us that “we’ve implemented a fix and users should be now be able to access their mail. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
