According to a report on Gartner, the worldwide PC, tablet and mobile phone combined shipments to hit 2.4 billion units by the end of this year, a 9 percent increase from 2012. Breaking the number down, the worldwide tablet shipments are forecasted to total 197 million units in 2013, a 69.8 percent increase from 2012 shipments of 116 million units.
On the other end, Android continues to be the dominant OS in the device market while the competition for the second position will be between Apple’s iOS/Mac OS and Microsoft Windows. Interestingly, of the 1.875 billion mobile phones which will be expected to be sold in 2013, 1 billion units will be smartphones, compared to 675 million units a year back.
