Seems like China is the foreland for the trademark disputes these days – first Apple which is under “huge dispute” against the iPad trademark case against Proview over which the firm asking for a proper compensation from Apple – moving in the same line-up – another international company as well as known as the world’s largest social networking giant – Facebook too will face questioning regarding the legitimacy of its intellectual property in the country.

Social media giant since from back in 2006 started registering its trademark in China and has so far filed 61 applications on the “Facebook” name both in English and Chinese – but yet found out that some of them have already been taken.

As per Facebook’s representative East IP Group, some of these names, such as the Chinese translation of “Facebook”, have already registered by domestic users. Adding to this, an employee at East IP states, “We are collecting evidence, hoping to reclaim these trademarks based on Facebook’s popularity and social awareness.”
