Digital Album Sales In US Are Up By 15%, Already Purchased 1 Billion Digital Tracks

According to the latest report from Nielsen, digital album sales in the US so far are up 15 percent as compared to the same period last year, making the total purchase number of one billion digital tracks, while a year ago, a total of 1.3 billion units sold. Looking out the shared data by Nielsen, year back in 2004, digital music industry accounts for just 1 percent of total album sales with in 2009, it accounts to nearly 40 percent of total album sales.

“As we look ahead, it’s clear that digital music purchases—and consumption through streaming sources—will continue to grow, and that consumers’ appetites for digital music will change at the speed of technology,” said David Bakula, Senior Vice President of Client Development at Nielsen. “These trends will no doubt continue to shape the way that music is discovered, marketed, consumed and sold.”
