Confirmed: Sony To Lay Off 10,000 Employees Over 2012 Fiscal Year

We reported that Sony is planning to cut around 10,000 jobs as part of its “One Sony” restructuring under new CEO Kazuo Hirai, the company has confirmed today that its plans are true and it will be reducing its workforce by approximately 10,000 over the 2012 fiscal year. The company stated in a press release that the move will hit its headquarters, subsidiaries, and sales organizations “in order to further enhance operational efficiencies.” The company is projecting the restructuring will cost ¥75 billion — more than $925 million.
